LAURA MARTORELL

I consider my artistic work as a way to become aware of the world in which I live, to reflect and question my experiences and my context. I like to transform what I see, flip it, disassemble it, distort it or break it. To destabilize, to shake conceptions or ideas. It is my way of exploring, experimenting, questioning and reflecting on my experiences and my environment.

For example, in the works of the series "Pieces of Memory" the images depicting memory are blurred or deformed, in "Temporary Configurations" the image of a vestige from the past is gradually distorted as an analogy to the transformation caused by the passage of time, in the works of the series "Spatial Image" there is a breakdown of the proposed  definition or construction of a space by the distortion of a mirror reflection, in "Un-certainty" the glasses of the framed photographs that project the illusion of shelter and comfort of homes seen from the outside are cracked, and in "Within reach", the idealisation of beauty and spirituality represented by angels painted on the vault of a church is dismantled by placing them on the ground in bowls that can be grasped by hands.

I approach all this common thread or thematic axis from different perspectives and I guess that's why my proposals are multidisciplinary at a formal and technical level, since they can range from sculpture, installation or photography.
